The transformation of  JTHS 1:1 Boot camp began June 4, 2012.  Over 70 teachers, administrators, and technology staff embarked on a new era for Joliet Township.  Tears were shed and frustration levels ran high at times during the learning at boot camp; however, by the end of the week the light at the end of tunnel was visible for most.  The 1:1 is about the students and their learning.

During my first ever keynote address, I used highlights from my learning on educational technology. From my PLN, I shared ideas from Steven Anderson @web20classroom, Ben Grey @bengrey, and Peter Reynolds'  The Dot.  After reading an article this morning in the JOURNAL, it is most imperative that leadership embark on this journey as well.  We cannot depend on the success of 1:1 to be only facilitated by teachers;  this is a journey facilitated by ALL.

The road not taken

As we return from spring break and head into the last stretch of this school year, the unknown moves closer to a reality.  This summer we move to a new way of "doing" curriculum.  This summer we take a road never taken before.  This summer we begin our journey on the road not taken.  As our district begins to unfold the ELA Common Core standards, we will be developing an integrated curriculum.  So many unknowns and so many questions. But if we don't take those first steps down that unknown road, what will happen?  Teachers will continue teaching the same way; students will continue learning the same way; school will stay the same...yet the world is changing.  Let the journey begin!
